Keeping Your BentBox Account in Positive Balance

BentBox is funded entirely by content sales. That single fact explains most of what follows.

Last updated 9 August 2026 · 6 min read · BentBox — operating since 2015

A BentBox account stays in positive balance through sales. Content sales are the only way BentBox monetises the platform — there are no advertisements and no sale of user data — so the commission on each transaction is what funds storage, delivery, payment processing, moderation and development. Creators keep 100% of their listed price, with commission added on top and paid by the buyer. Accounts that generate no sales for more than one year may have their content permanently deleted, which is why actively promoting your listings is the part of the partnership that only the creator can do.

Sales are the only revenue

Content sales are the sole way BentBox monetises the platform. There are no advertisements, and user data is not sold.

You keep 100% of your price

Commission is added on top of your listed price and paid by the buyer — a minimum of $3 under 100MB and $5 at 100MB and above.

Promotion is the creator’s part

BentBox handles the storefront, delivery, payments and discovery. Bringing an audience to your listings is the half only you can do.

A year without a sale matters

Accounts that have generated no sales for more than one year may have their content permanently deleted.

Why this page exists

BentBox is a sales platform. It exists to connect creators with buyers and to make the transaction between them work — hosting, delivery, payment processing, moderation and compliance included. That arrangement only holds up if content is actually selling, which makes the relationship a partnership rather than a hosting service: BentBox builds and runs the marketplace, and creators bring an audience to their own listings.

It is worth being explicit about the economics, because they are unusual. Content sales are the sole way BentBox monetises the platform. We do not run advertisements. We do not sell user data. There is no secondary revenue stream subsidising accounts that never sell, which is a deliberate choice — it is what keeps the site clean and the relationship between you and your buyers direct — but it does mean that sustained inactivity has a cost that lands on everybody using the platform.

What “positive balance” actually means

Your balance is simply what your sales have earned and not yet paid out. It goes up when someone buys, and it clears when your monthly payout runs. An account in positive balance is therefore just an account that has been selling recently — there is nothing to top up, nothing to subscribe to, and no fee to keep an account open.

On the commission side, the arrangement is the one you already know: creators keep 100% of the price they set, and the BentBox commission is added on top of that price and paid by the buyer — a minimum of $3 for items under 100MB and $5 at 100MB and above. Payouts run monthly by bank transfer, Paxum, Yoursafe, PayPal or gift card.

Accounts with no sales for over a year

Building an audience takes time, and nobody expects a new account to sell immediately. Sustained inactivity over a much longer horizon is a different matter, and we would rather state the position plainly than have it come as a surprise.

Please read this part carefully

Accounts that have not generated any sales for more than one year may be subject to having their content permanently deleted. This measure exists to keep BentBox a vibrant and active marketplace for sellers and buyers alike rather than an archive of listings that nobody is selling and nobody is buying.

If your account is approaching that point, the answer is not to wait and hope. Refresh your listings, get a link to your storefront in front of the audience you already have, and talk to us through the Contact page if there are circumstances we should know about.

Keep your own master copies of everything you upload, as you should with any platform. BentBox is where your work is sold; it is not a backup service, and no marketplace should be the only place a file exists.

How to actually drive sales

Most accounts that make no sales are not making bad work. They are making work that nobody can reach. BentBox handles discovery inside the platform, but the strongest signal for any listing is traffic arriving from outside it — and that is the half only the creator can supply. Six things carry most of the weight:

Put your BentBox link where your audience already is Profile bios, link-in-bio pages, portfolio site, email signature, forum signature. Most creators who make no sales are not being ignored — they are simply not reachable from anywhere their audience actually looks.
Publish free teasers that point somewhere A single frame or a short clip posted publicly, with a clear route to the full set. Free work that leads nowhere builds an audience for someone else’s storefront.
Release on a rhythm rather than in bursts A predictable cadence — even a modest one — gives returning buyers a reason to come back and gives new listings a chance to be found. Long silences reset whatever momentum you had.
Own a direct channel to your buyers A mailing list or an on-platform following is the only audience that cannot be taken away by someone else’s algorithm change. It is also the cheapest sale you will ever make.
Write listings that can be found A descriptive title, an accurate description and honest tags do real work in on-site search and in external search engines. “Set 14” tells nobody anything.
Give buyers a reason to buy more than once Series, themed collections and clearly differentiated tiers turn a single purchase into a sequence. A catalogue of unrelated one-offs makes every sale start from zero.

Promote anywhere. Sell here. Posting teasers, linking your storefront and building an audience on other platforms is encouraged. Completing the transaction elsewhere is not: soliciting buyers to purchase or exchange content off-platform is prohibited under Terms of Service v5.1. An off-platform sale strips the buyer of payment protection and leaves you with no payout record and no recourse if it goes wrong.

What BentBox does on its side

The partnership runs in both directions. Commission revenue goes back into the things that make a sale possible and repeatable: search and discovery across the catalogue, delivery infrastructure that holds paid media in private storage and releases it only to the buyer who paid, human moderation of every listing, payment processing through Verotel and EMerchantPay, and the compliance work — age assurance, consent documentation, jurisdictional requirements — that keeps the marketplace operating at all.

None of that is visible from a creator dashboard, and all of it is paid for by sales. That is the whole argument of this page.

Frequently asked questions

Through content sales, and only through content sales. BentBox does not run advertisements and does not sell user data. The commission on each sale is what pays for storage, delivery, payment processing, moderation and development. That model is the reason the platform can stay clean and direct, and it is also the reason sales activity across accounts matters to everyone using it.

Accounts that have not generated any sales for more than one year may be subject to having their content permanently deleted. This keeps BentBox an active marketplace rather than an archive of listings nobody is selling or buying. If your account is approaching that point and you want to discuss it, contact support before it becomes urgent.

No. Creators keep 100% of the price they set. The BentBox commission is added on top of the listed price and paid by the buyer, at a minimum of $3 for items under 100MB and $5 at 100MB and above. Nothing is deducted from the creator’s side of the transaction.

Yes, and you should. Post teasers, link your storefront, build an audience wherever it makes sense for your work. The one rule is that the transaction itself completes on BentBox — soliciting buyers to purchase or exchange content off-platform is prohibited under Terms of Service v5.1, because it removes the payment protection, payout record and compliance framework that both sides depend on.

Payouts run monthly. You can be paid by bank transfer, Paxum, Yoursafe, PayPal or gift card, depending on what you have configured in your account. Payout details are held separately from general account data and are never exposed publicly beyond a masked reference.

In most cases the listings are not reachable. Content sitting on BentBox with no external route to it is competing against every other listing on internal discovery alone. The creators who sell consistently almost always have a public presence somewhere else that points at their storefront, publish on a predictable rhythm, and write listings that describe what is actually in them.
