Can I submit an existing short film?

Yes, no problem at all.

Can I write my onw story?

Yes.

Does the short film have to contain nude scenes?

No, nudity is not essential. The most important element is the actual story which should have an erotic element to it.

What is the difference between pornography and erotic?

The way we see it, in pornography the subject is the object of non desire, it exists regardless of desire, pornography is lazy. Think about the hashtags #foodporn, #shoeporn, etc. Pornography creates a quick response without a build up. In an erotic construction, the work goes towards creating desire, even if it doesn't exist.

Can sexual acts being included in the short film?

We will judge the short films on the basis of their storytelling values. Are the sexual acts functional, integral, to the story? Could the story be written without sexual acts? If the sexual acts are integral to the story and if the story cannot be written without sexual acts, then go for it.

How long should the short film be?

It can be anywhere between 5 and 30 minutes.

When is the submission deadline?

The 31st of August 2019.

Do I win real cash?

Yes, absolutely. The contest prize is $1,000 USD in cash.

Can I deviate from the synopsis?

Yes. The most important objective is to write an engaging story, we have written the synopsis in a three act structure to help you construct your story. If deviating from the synopsis is needed for your storytelling, it would be fine with us.

What is a three act structure?

Act 1 - Setup

Anna writes a letter to her lover from some years ago. She is feeling nostalgic remembering how they used to be together.

Haunted by their relationship, she is still bound to the past with a chain of emotions.

Act 2 - Challenge

Nostalgia is a feeling of captivity and she cannot let go, but she has to in order to move on and be free.

Act 3 - Resolution

The letter becomes a cathartic exercise in which she uses her sexual expression to take control of the emotions and feelings that are keeping her connected to the memories of the past.

In the process of owning those memories of pleasures and lust, she believes she can control her feelings by calling back the moments of their relationship as she pleases.

But does she have real control or is it just an illusion?

What format and definition should it be filmed in?

At least High Definition (1920x1080), if you can do it in 4k even better. We recommend exporting the final video as a .mov file using a lossless compression (e.g. Apple ProRes).

Should I use professional equipment?

We don't want to limit your creativity. If you can tell a great story with a phone, it's fine by us. However, we will be judging the image quality, so if the video is too dark, grainy, blurry or shaky, it won't work in your favour. Just please shoot it in landscape mode ;)

Should there be dialogues?

We welcome sound! Dialogues and music can help build your story. It is not a requirement per se but it is higly recommended to have dialogues.
